Sorghum Cooking

Thursday, September 8th, 2011 - 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
The sorghum cooking will be held in Sorghum Valley on Senior Citizens day.
Every year the Dyer County Fair grows and hand harvests a crop of sorghum. This sorghum is then taken to the fair to be cooked the old fashion way!
A mule driven mill is fed the sweet sorghum cane which squeezes the juice into a barrel. The juice is taken to the cooking pan that is heated by wood and slowly cooked until turning a light golden brown. Finally, the sorghum molasses is pulled off the pan to be enjoy by all!
Come out Thursday to enjoy a biscuit covered in our handmade, sweet sorghum molasses!
